BAAPS Statement on The Working Party on Sexual Misconduct in Surgery

In light of the findings of The Working Party on Sexual Misconduct in Surgery, the BAAPS would like to emphasise our abhorrence of sexual misconduct and all abusive behaviours.

The BAAPS code of conduct is a central tenant of our charitable aims and helps improve the safety of plastic surgery patients by demanding professional behaviour at all times from our members. Professional behaviour includes towards colleagues in the workplace as well, and to the same standard.

Any form of sexual misconduct is not only morally reprehensible but is also not compatible with BAAPS membership or a safe work environment. The BAAPS also recognises that female and more junior surgeons are disproportionally affected by sexual misconduct. The BAAPS strongly condemns such misconduct and supports the work underway to address and stamp out predatory and abusive behaviour.
