Mentor Training Course

This formal training session led by a professional mentoring trainer on behalf of the national ENT UK mentoring scheme, which will take place on Monday 9th March 2026 as a one-day in-person event at The Library within The Royal College of Surgeons of England, London.

The aim of this course is to explore the nature of mentoring relationships as well as put together a toolbox of different skills for you to draw upon as your move forward in your mentoring experience, with the following objectives:

Consider your experience as a mentor and reflect on the difference between mentoring and other forms of support
Examine the similarities and differences between your skills as a clinical expert and as a mentor
Experience the difference between listening and hearing; be able to recall the impact of difference approaches
List the factors that impact support and challenge in mentoring and how you can put this into practice
Detail the value of applying an emotionally intelligent approach to mentoring meetings
Outline two different models in mentoring conversations
Undertake a mentoring session as a mentee, mentor and observer
Reflect on the experience of both models as a group
Consider the different factors that impact mentoring conversations and relationship
Refreshments and a sandwich buffet lunch will be provided for all attendees.
