BAAPS Statement on RCSEng Patient Portal
12 April 2016 (Last updated: 27 Mar 2019 13:24)
According to consultant plastic surgeon and BAAPS President Michael Cadier;
“The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS); which represents the vast majority of NHS-trained plastic surgeons in private practice; is delighted to hear that in advance of its own Annual Scientific Meeting (taking place 6-7 October) the Royal College of Surgeons of England is launching a new patient portal providing accurate information on cosmetic procedures and advice on how to choose a surgeon. For the last several decades, the BAAPS has been the only source of unbiased content for the public, and we have been instrumental in driving the changes to make this new portal possible. For the last three years BAAPS has worked both closely and exhaustively with the RCS to develop not only this patient portal but also implementing mechanisms to ensure that cosmetic surgeons are appropriately trained and competent, and to develop measures to monitor the outcomes of cosmetic surgery – and, crucially, to make these resources available online to the public. These mechanisms and portals will continue to help secure what BAAPS has been working so hard to achieve: safe, effective and high quality cosmetic surgery for the UK public. The BAAPS is the only organisation based at the RCS solely dedicated to the advancement and education of aesthetic plastic surgery.”
