BAAPS Appoints New President

Adam Searle assumes leadership role at the BAAPS

London, UK - 9 September 2004— The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (www.baaps.org.uk) today announced the appointment of Mr. Adam Searle, Head of the Plastic and Reconstructive Unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital, to the role of President.

Adam Searle has served on the BAAPS Council since 2000, and in the past two-year term was Honorary Secretary and President-Elect. He has been a member of the BAAPS since 1995.

According to Mr. Norman Waterhouse, Consultant Plastic Surgeon and former President;

“Adam Searle’s appointment adds tremendous value to the leadership of our organisation. His exceptional track record, and commitment to patient education and safety strategically positions the BAAPS as an ideal destination for those seeking to learn more about plastic surgery.”

Mr Searle graduated from the University of London in 1985. After four years of training in general surgery he qualified as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in 1989.

His professional experience includes working at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, the Regional Plastic Surgery and Burns Unit at Mount Vernon Hospital, and Charing Cross Hospital, where Mr. Searle was appointed to a Consultant post in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. In 1993 he joined a Medecins Sans Frontieres mission to war-torn Bosnia, where they provided plastic and reconstructive support.

Since becoming a Consultant Mr. Searle has been invited to attend clinics and operating theatres in Europe and Scandinavia, the Middle East and the United States of America. He has held clinical posts in many teaching hospitals and teaching forms a major part of his consultant career.

According to Mr. Searle;

"Patients have a need for an unbiased, informative resource, and I look forward to working with a strong Council of proactive and experienced surgeons. The team in place at the BAAPS will lead the specialty in providing patients with the most up-to-date, comprehensive information and support available.”

Mr. Searle’s main areas of interest are Reconstructive and Aesthetic Breast Surgery, and Head and Neck Oncology and Reconstruction.
