About me:
Mr Edmund Fitzgerald O’Connor is a London-based Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon specialising in post-weight-loss body contouring, Fleur-de-Lis (FDL) abdominoplasty and complex abdominal contouring surgery.
He has a high-volume practice in surgery following significant and massive weight loss, performing more than 130 complex post-weight-loss body-contouring procedures each year, including approximately 30 Fleur-de-Lis (FDL) abdominoplasties annually.
This extensive experience means that a substantial part of his surgical practice is devoted specifically to patients who have developed significant skin and soft-tissue excess following weight loss. He is internationally recognised for his body contouring surgery expertise.
Performing approximately 30 FDL abdominoplasties each year, Mr Fitzgerald O’Connor regularly assesses and operates on patients requiring complex abdominal reshaping. His approach considers the patient's individual anatomy, previous surgery, distribution of skin excess, abdominal wall, scar placement, desired outcome and overall surgical safety.
His wider post-weight-loss body-contouring practice includes standard and extended abdominoplasty, circumferential/360-degree body contouring, lower body lift, liposuction, arm lift (brachioplasty), thigh lift, gynaecomastia surgery and other excess-skin removal procedures.
Reconstructive expertise
Alongside his aesthetic and post-weight-loss practice, Mr Fitzgerald O’Connor has extensive experience in complex reconstructive plastic surgery and microsurgery.
He is a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, with experience in major trauma, complex soft-tissue reconstruction and challenging revisional reconstructive surgery.
Mr Fitzgerald O’Connor trained through the Pan Thames Plastic Surgery Training Programme after qualifying in medicine from St George’s, University of London. He subsequently undertook specialist microsurgical fellowships at the Royal London Hospital and Royal Perth Hospital in Western Australia and worked as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in Australia before returning to London. He is the current head of plastic surgery at Guys & St Thomas' Hospital in London.
He is FRCS (Plast) qualified, is on the specialist register for Plastic Surgery and is certified by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in cosmetic surgery, including recognised practice in massive weight-loss surgery and cosmetic body-contouring surgery.
