About me:
Prof Ernest Azzopardi is the current BAAPS UK Lead for Laser, contributing to setting the standard, profesional education and the responsible advancement of laser and energy-based technologies within aesthetic plastic surgery. Ernesto is a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon, Director of the Laser Lab at the University of Malta, and Chief Executive Officer of SkinSurgeon International. His work encompasses aesthetic surgery, complex scar management, skin oncology and the integration of advanced laser technologies with surgical care.
Following completion of higher specialist training in plastic surgery in the United Kingdom, Professor Azzopardi undertook advanced fellowships in Swansea, London and Milan, including the combined BAPRAS/BAAPS Fellowship in Aesthetic Surgery. He has since developed extensive experience in laser surgery, having treated more than 10,000 cases and receiving specialist referrals from the United Kingdom, Europe and further afield.
His clinical practice is underpinned by an active programme of research spanning scar biology, laser surgery, skin cancer and tissue repair. He has received numerous awards, grants and international distinctions, including the Hunterian Professorship and Medal, the James Syme Medal, the W. T. Edwards Medal and the BAPRAS President’s Medal, and over Eur 1.2 million in funding.
Alongside his clinical, academic and leadership roles, Professor Azzopardi remains closely involved in postgraduate education, specialist training and mentorship. His approach is defined by poised natural outcomes, personalised medicine, and the selective adoption of innovation where it offers genuine clinical value.
